ATV/ORV riding is a big sport in the Upper Peninsula. You will need an annual trail permit which costs approximately $30.00 for the 2016-2017 season. Visit Michigan DNRand use the links for additional information. Michigan's public Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) trail/route system provides four types of riding opportunities: motorcycle trails, all terrain vehicle (ATV) trails, ORV routes which are open to all Secretary of State licensed vehicles, and scramble areas. In the Upper Peninsula, it is legal for ORVs to operate on state forest roads as well as the designated trail system, unless a specific state forest road is posted closed to ORV use.
It is legal to ride snowmobiles and ATVs on Wakefield streets.
